How do you check a company name, domain and trademark with WIPO and EUIPO?

Check three different questions: whether a company name can be entered in the relevant register, whether a domain can be registered, and whether using a brand may conflict with trademark rights. A clear result in one system does not settle the other two. This guide is an orientation for preparing a search record, not a legal opinion or a filing service.

Start with a shortlist and the markets you will serve

Write three to five names with Cyrillic and Latin forms, pronunciations, abbreviations and likely spelling variations. Describe the actual goods and services and the territories where you intend to sell. Record the search date, exact query, register, relevant record numbers and why a result may matter. Search similar wording and meaning as well as exact text; a search engine result page is useful context, not clearance.

    Company-name reservation in Bulgaria

The Registry Agency's guidance points applicants to the reserved-name list and rights-over-name enquiries before a D1 reservation application. It describes a six-month reservation period after entry. Follow the current portal guidance and fee information at the time of filing. A reservation is not incorporation and does not grant trademark protection. A legal adviser can assess the intended company form and filing requirements.

Search WIPO and the relevant registers

WIPO means World Intellectual Property Organization. Its Global Brand Database searches participating collections, including Madrid international marks. Coverage and updates vary; WIPO recommends checking relevant national or regional registers too. An empty result is not confirmation that a name is available. WIPO's service terms restrict automated querying, so do not set up a scraping agent against the database.

Use EUIPO and TMview for the European search

EUIPO is the European Union Intellectual Property Office. TMview brings together participating offices' applications and registrations. Review relevant goods/services, territory and current status rather than treating every text match as a conflict or every different spelling as safe. Also consult the Bulgarian Patent Office for national records relevant to the Bulgarian market. A trademark professional should assess similarity and the filing route; this article does not determine registrability.

Check the domain and secure ownership separately

After the naming review, check intended domain extensions, renewal terms and account ownership. A registrar's availability response describes the domain's current registration status, not a right to use the brand. Use an account controlled by the business, enable strong authentication, record renewal responsibility and keep recovery access independent of a single contractor. Buying multiple extensions is a budget decision, not a substitute for clearance.

A practical handoff for a professional review

    • Candidate names, scripts and spelling variants.
    • Intended goods/services and target territories.
    • Search records and potentially relevant applications or registrations.
    • Proposed domain and intended rights holder.
    • Questions that remain unresolved; do not label the name legally approved.

3D Open Website can organise the digital naming brief and connect the approved direction to the brand and site. We do not act as WIPO, EUIPO or your legal representative. Continue with the business launch roadmap after specialist decisions are settled.
